Venus Bliss MAXTM from Venus Concept, Inc. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) merges three technologies onto one platform for a 360° non- invasive body shaping experience. Its protocol, known as TriBodyTM, allows practitioners to harness three well-understood technologies to help patients achieve a more aesthetically ideal silhouette: the 1064 nm diode laser, FlexMAXTM hands-free electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), and a proprietary combination of multipolar radiofrequency (RF) and pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) called (MP)2 technology.
The modalities employed are specified for body shaping and are consistent in their effect, according to Scott Gerrish, DO, founder and director of Gerrish MedEsthetics (Scottsdale, Ariz. and Vienna, Va.). “The diode laser heats up fat and promotes apoptosis, which is programmed cell death rather than necrosis. This is important because necrosis is associated with unnecessary inflammation and is nowhere near the best mechanism for causing cell death,” he said. “FlexMAX EMS induces up to 100,000 controlled, specific muscle contractions to build and tone the musculature. (MP)2 technology uses thermal and nonthermal energies to induce fibroblast and collagen production, promote angiogenesis, and improve microcirculation which promotes the skin contraction vital to any overall body contouring therapy.”
Dr. Gerrish also explained that these same factors are why Venus Bliss MAX can improve the appearance of cellulite. “Cellulite is a multifactorial condition, and the device treats most of the factors contributing to the appearance of cellulite – improved skin quality and tightness, fat bulging and better local microcirculation. With any treatment like this you are going to want regular occasional maintenance, and this is true for Venus Bliss MAX as well, especially for cellulite,” he added.
The newest component to the platform is the FlexMAX EMS, which is a more focused therapy than the MMS employed in other devices, according to Dr. Gerrish. “MMS tends to spread laterally at higher intensities, which is less specific, especially when you need to go deeper,” he explained. “EMS is easier to direct, control and keep away from areas other than what you want to stimulate, which results in a more specific treatment.”
Although each modality can be used by itself, the three technologies together yield the most profound outcomes. Surprisingly, Dr. Gerrish noted, more and more patients have been requesting treatment with (MP)2. “It is becoming popular enough that I have to consider an additional unit just to accommodate people who want it,” he reported.
Safety and efficacy are always important, but other key factors make Venus Bliss MAX a valuable addition to his aesthetic practice, according to Dr. Gerrish. “The device is easy to operate with a nice interface that has multiple useful features to promote the best outcomes. It has a relatively small footprint, which is always a big plus.”
“Also, thanks to the nature of the included modalities, how they are applied, and the very effective onboard cooling contained in the ergonomic handpiece, treatment is comfortable and hassle-free for patients, so compliance and patient completion of a course of therapy are highly likely,” Dr. Gerrish explained.
“TriBody therapy is something patients love, and when they experience the treatment and results, they are going to want to come back for more,” Dr. Gerrish emphasized. “It is as simple as that.”
